I've seen good and bad times, and I've seen people coming
and leaving. What's common in every one of those people was everyone of them had an opinion based on which they evaluated my situation and suggested the best possible way out according to their introspection.
I've always been thankful to these advises, good or bad, whether it helps me or not, but just because these advises tell you that people care.
During this spell, I came across a friend, who never judged, never introspected, never said anything but just sat there and listened to me, in the best and the worst times.
I found that friend in Igor, an 8 weeks old kitten I adopted and turned out to be my best pal was facing a problem while walking. He seemed in pain and started limping while walking.
I noticed this problem for weeks thinking that he might have fallen down while playing around in the house but with months passing, his condition didn't get any better.
I decided to take him to a veterinary doctor who prescribed some painkillers.
About 6 months after the treatment he still seemed in pain and didn't stop limping.
The doctor prescribed a $750 worth of a CT scan to exactly diagnose the problem. I arranged the money from my savings and earlier last week got the CT scan done.
Igor was hysterical when I bought her in to the clinic. He was intoxicated and then was kept a night in the hospital. When the results came out, he got diagnosed with a hip disjoint, possible due to an injury and the doctor suggested a Femoral Head Ostectomy to be performed on him.
An FHO restores mobility to the hip by removing the head of the femur. This removes the ball of the ball-and-socket joint, leaving just an empty socket. The muscles of the leg will initially hold the femur in place and, over time, scar tissue will form between the acetabulum and the femur to provide cushioning that is referred to as a 'false joint'. Although this joint is anatomically very different from a normal hip joint, it provides pain-free mobility in most cases.
I looked around a bit for the success rates of FHO in cats and found that if well performed, the cats can walk around normally in about 6 months.
Now the next stage was to allocate enough money for the surgery. The doctor has quoted $3500 for the surgery and at this point, this kind of money is way out of my budget.
Although, I do not prefer asking people or money. However, desperate times call for desperate measures. I resorted to crowd funding through GoFundme and a number of Facebook and Twitter posts.
So far, people have been kind enough to donate $30 for the surgery but it's a long way to go.
For Igor, I am ready to put away all of my savings which will turn out close to be $2000 but it won't be enough for the medications and CT scans after the surgery.
He's the reason I was able to find the strength in me during hard times and I could actually start up the blog, talking about issues that matter to me. Any one with a pet might be able to contemplate what I'm talking about.
Now Igor needs my help and I'm ready to do whatever it takes for him to be able to walk again.
I request you to put out your heart and some money for Igor's surgery. If you aren't in a position to donate, I'd request you to share this blog as much as you can so as it will be enough to gather the funds for his surgery and medicines.
Now some of you might have the idea that instead of gathering so much money for a cat, it's better to put it down and relieve him off his misery. To them, I'd say No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another. When we adopt a dog or any pet, we know it is going to end with us having to say goodbye, but we still do it. And we do it for a very good reason: They bring so much joy and optimism and happiness. They attack every moment of every day with that attitude. I'm determined to give my pet the same joy back.
